New beta version of VSnav

Posted: Mon Dec 29, 2003 10:12 pm
by iqAuto
0.55 beta2 is up for people to test as of 12/29. This fixes several problems from 0.55 beta (uploaded on 12/23). Please keep your 0.54 handy, though.
http://www.iqauto.com/vs/vsnav/unreleased
This directory will disappear once 0.55 is fully released. (or reappear if/when 0.56 is getting worked on).

New Features-
1. There is now a marker (V) when selecting a system to let you know if you've visited it and a note in the bottom system information box. Colors on the map are different (brighter) if a system has been visited.
2. System Assets. An "Asset" is a mining base, agriculture planet, and so on. For those systems that have been visited, these assets are displayed. An "Asset" button has been added to allow you to "plan a trip" to the nearest asset of a particular type.

The assets is where you can help. I determine asset types by the image type in the system definitions. They are most certainly incomplete. Asset types can be added under Options/Advanced. Monitoring of save game and assets must both be checked in order for assests to be searched. Modifying the "Advanced" options should allow VSnav to work for VS mods as well (I hope).

There are a few bugs in this part of the code still being worked on: Not all assets are displayed all the time.

If you want to disable asset checking it will speed things up a bit.

There are also some minor fixes from 0.54.

Feedback here or via pvt mssg welcome.

VSnav 0.55 beta3

by iqAuto
VSNav 0.55 beta3 is now up. I accidentally broke the trip planner in either beta1 or beta2 - it's fixed. I think all the assets are found and displayed correctly (at least the most important types), as well as planning a trip to the nearest of a given asset type working. It needs a few days in testing to see what's missing.

Mac Users: I'll do a little clean up and release the source for you to try after 0.55 is released.

You should make it so that you can't jump through the center of a star.

no, jumping through stars is good. Trust me, not being able to jump through stars is.... very anoying... download 0.3 is you dont beleive it.

well, lets just presume 'jump' space is something completely different to real space, so its like another dimension if you like. Otherwise, every ingle little object is still going to touch you (lets presume that anyways), so imagine what it would be like travelling fwe a few particles of dust at a googleplex to the power of light speed...

VSnav 0.55 beta5

Since you probably haven't noticed, VSnav 0.55 went through beta-4 last week and now it's up to beta-5.

Changes from beta-4
-fixed save game not monitored in some cases.
-added selected and last known system coloring.
-improved asset type detection.

Changes from beta-3:
-fixed assets not showing up real-time after new save game.
-added "Hide unvisited systems" in options.
-fixed detect change in default asset lists.
-ability to easily reset asset list in advanced options.
-better asset detection.

I've identified most asset types and detection is pretty good now. The last types I really need to identify are J,K, and N class planets. Are they just hunks of rock with no redeeming value, or are they something else? I've not run across any of these. Hints, anybody?

0.55 is "real close" to being finished... ('bout time!)

As far as i know, they are a planet texture. I dont think that any of them have colonies on them though, if they do, i have not seen any as of yet.

I've solved the J,K, and N class planet problem.

Could somebody with a Mac/Darwin setup who would be willing to do some work/experiments please PM me. I want to try to get this thing compiled for that setup if possible...I don't think I'm that far away from accomplishing that.
