How do you open/edit the .bsp files?

How do you open/edit the .bsp files?

Hi,
I'm looking to play around with some of the game files and very new to any kind of hacking. I'm using Linux and I want to get into the .bsp files. My package manager can't open them. What program do I need to open them up in a editable format and where can I get this program?
