Hey guys, just downloaded VegaStrike 0.5.0 and installed it. Once I get into space I get static flashing up on hud items.

My Specs:
Fresh XP install (as in yesterday)
Athlon 64 X2 4400+
2GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 2400 gfx card w/ Latest ATI Catalyst driver

Ive attached a screenshot.

Any ideas? Im really keen to play.

Press m to see whether there are any components damaged?
I get this kind of static only when I hit pause.

TCNT:OFF
DAMAGE REPORT
Armor02 100%
Capacitor02 100%
Reactor02 100%
Skyscope1 100%
Quadshield02 100%

Pressing pause causes the flashing to stops the hud items being redrawn at all, leaving several big static squares.

Welcome Oni could you post stdout.txt and stderr.txt you will find them in the bin folder with the executable's and dll's that should give me a bit more info on what the game thinks it is doing.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Sorry about the delay here, its been a busy week at work.

Thanks loki1950 your post was more helpfull then you may have intended.

Stdout/err were not in bin, they were in the music dir so I checked the working directory on my shortcut and it was in fact pointing to music. Changed this over and everything seems to be working fine.

May point to a problem with the windows installer or just a peculiarity on my system...
Time to strike. Thanks for the help guys.

My Vegastrike shortcut also points to:

"C:\Program Files\Vega Strike\Vegastrike-0.5.0\music"

as the "Start in" directory on Windows Vista. What should the working directory be?

It should be pointing to the root folder \data and i would run the setup app again to make sure the config file is also in the right place, the shortcut itself should point to the exe in \bin.Looks like we will have to look a bit more closely at the installer's behaviour on Vista and thanks for reporting the oddity.

Enjoy the Choice :)

The shortcut does point to the executable file, and I have been able to play Vegastrike. The vegastrike.config file is located in the "Vegastrike-0.5.0" directory. There is no folder named "data":

Vegastrike-0.5.0
Vegastrike-0.5.0\.vegastrike-0.5.0
Vegastrike-0.5.0\ai
Vegastrike-0.5.0\animations
Vegastrike-0.5.0\bases
Vegastrike-0.5.0\bin
Vegastrike-0.5.0\bin\imlib2
Vegastrike-0.5.0\bin\New Folder
Vegastrike-0.5.0\bin\vhook
Vegastrike-0.5.0\cgi-accountserver
Vegastrike-0.5.0\cockpits
Vegastrike-0.5.0\communications
Vegastrike-0.5.0\documentation
Vegastrike-0.5.0\history
Vegastrike-0.5.0\meshes
Vegastrike-0.5.0\mission
Vegastrike-0.5.0\modules
Vegastrike-0.5.0\movies
Vegastrike-0.5.0\programs
Vegastrike-0.5.0\sectors
Vegastrike-0.5.0\sounds
Vegastrike-0.5.0\sprites
Vegastrike-0.5.0\textures
Vegastrike-0.5.0\units
Vegastrike-0.5.0\universe

Well it indeed looks that way with Vegastrike-0.5.0 taking the place of data  Which is what it is in the svn repo

Enjoy the Choice :)
