Fuel use causes damage?
This is just a quick fix (I hope). As I fly my ship (a milspec derivative) around, my milspec package is damaged as I lose fuel. and its like a 100,000 cred job to refuel it by fixing it specifically, but if I do a basic repair, it fixes it. I just thought your package shouldn't get damaged and instead you could have a separate fuel indicator in your ship's upgrade menu so you know if you need to refuel.

I think that may be tied to fact that your reactor is part of the mil-spec package so as it uses fuel it thinks it's damage just a stab in the dark.

I have only flown stock ships, don't know if its the fuel usage that causes this but sometimes my reactor just fails, most of the time i see this om out of fuel. or very low.
Ah since fuel is the topic here, what is it for? how do i refuel?
I never got stranded in space so, never noticed what its for. since people say overdrive is bugged i haven't bought one yet.

that's what i think may be happening the upgrades code had a bit of a rework between versions and the change in the mil-spec specs was just one.there is a config variable that turns off fuel usage if you don't like the hassle of refueling.
Edit basic repair also refuels

The overdrive bugs were present in the beta, but fixed in SVN. (Aside: we really should keep a "Known bugs, by version#" page around in the wiki).
Fuel is used for all manuevering (both linear and rotational)
Fuel is used at an accelerated rate when Overdrive is activated
Fuel is consumed by the reactor to produce energy to be stored in the capacitor banks (both normal and FTL capacitors). If the capacitor banks are full, the reactor goes into an "idle" state, in which fuel consumption/unit time is reduced, exiting this state as soon as demand resumes.
Thrust behavior when fuel reaches zero is governed by a configuration variable (I don't recall which one offhand, but the name was reasonably apparent). Setting it to 0 means no thrust when out of fuel, setting it to 1 is full thrust when out of fuel. This configuration parameter is applied only to player vessels. When an AI is out of fuel, it's out of fuel.
Significant amounts of system damage can result in rapid fuel depletion.

Yeah. The only time I was really in danger of running out of fuel I got shot up real bad and barely made it back to a mining base. If I had missed 1st pass, fuel would have died before I turned around. And there were pirates chasing me. Lots of pirates. And Uln dodo's.Significant amounts of system damage can result in rapid fuel depletion.

Guys, this one should be moved to bug triage forum. (Loki,Ace. please?)
On current SVN: 11859
I can confirm that millspec packages take damage from fuel usage. for no aparent reason. this makes milspec ships unusable if you dont have big amounts of cash.
(Just sold a milspec Shizu, to get a Stock one.)
