Changing relationships to other factions with cheating?!
Hello
I was wondering and thinking,
that you can change your amount of money with cheating.
So I think, the relationships to other factions have to be stored somewhere.
Does anyone know where they are stored and how to manipulate them?
Perhaps let this special faction, I have in mind only forget, that I shot 47 ships of them.

Restoring Faction Relationships
(VegaStrike 0.4.3)
I realize this thread is 4 months old, but the input I have might be useful.
I just started playing VegaStrike recently. Due to the learning curve and a few frustrations, I've had to start over with a new game several times until my goals, playing style, and ability to opse with a few bugs started settling down. It was irritating to start over again and to work at restoring the faction relationships that I had worked very hard to achieve.
In your savegame, at the end of the file, you see the keywords "factions begin" followed by a lot of numbers. This is the last section in the game save. This is a two dimensional table - for example, in the table will be your relationship to a faction, and THEIR relationship to YOU (I imagine under most circumstances the two values would be identical). This long series of numbers is a 2-dim table and you cant't just go changing values in it, it might mess up the game. It would be difficult to know EXACTLY where the proper table entries are for an intended hack.
I did an experiment whereby in a NEW game I chated up a klkk base until rep with them went from 5 to 6, docked, and saved (I knew that "6" was a unique rep, all default reps in the table are usually at even numbers - 0, -5, 10, 60 etc).
Sure enough, at two locations in this savegame section were numbers like (for example) 0.063871 (always 6 digits after the decimal point). I changed them both to 1.000000, and sure enough when I reloaded rep with the klkk was at 100%, and they behave very friendly towards me, so I know it worked. So thats item one: if you want to restore the work you did for faction reps from a previous game, just chat up the factions a little until they are at unique values such as "7", "31", "3" or so on. In your savegame, modify values such as 0.076797, 0.310185, and 0.038343 to 1.000000 for a 100% rep.
Item two. If you work hard and establish good reps - for example in my current game everyone is at 100 except for ISO at 0% (haven't found any ISO ships yet in THIS specific savegame, though in previous games I had) and rlaan briin (I've NEVER seen a briin ship, I guess they dont exist in 0.4.3). You can use Windows Notepad, IF you are careful. Postion the cursor in your savegame at "f" in "factions begin", then shift-cursor-down and shift-cursor-right until ALL the following numbers are highlighted; make sure that in notepad this includes the LAST number, all seven digits and the decimal. While highlighted, EDIT->COPY, and then NEW FILE (if notepad mistakenly thinks that you modified you savegame and asks to save it, say "NO"). In the NEW file, PASTE the data - it should start with "factions bein" followed by all thos numbers. SAVE this new file (I called mine FacBak.txt).
If you ever start a new game and want to restore previous relationships, CAREFULLY modify the savegame: DELETE "factions begin" and the rest of the file downwards, SAVE it, COPY from your backup ("FacBak.txt"), PASTE this at the end of the file - there should be ONE character space between the prev item and "factions begin" for example in my current game:
data 10 factions begin x.xxxxxx x.xxxxxx ....
Just to make sure, position the cursor at the very end of the file - after the last number - MAKE SURE with cursor-right that you are at the END of the file(!) - and then hold the delete key down for a bit to make sure you haven't accidently inserted whitespace at the end. SAVE the file.

For those hoping for some more detailed information than what's been posted so far (like I was), I did some messing around and thought I'd post my findings. It appears as though the faction portion of the save game file is a grid of faction values.
When docked, look at the factions listed on the "Info" tab - neutral, confed, aera, rlaan, merchant_guild, luddites, pirates, etc. This is the exact same order for the values in the faction grid, both horizontally & vertically. So that 0,0 is neutral (1.000000), 1,1 is confed (1.000000), 2,2 is aera (1.000000), etc.
If you want to set how the pirates feel toward you, counting with the row that begins "0 factions begin 1.000000 0.000000..." as row 1... go down to row 7, then count over to column 25 & set the value.
After having set the aerans to liking me & then loading the save game I noticed that the in game readout had a positive reading for the aerans. After saving the game & opening the new save game file I checked the privateer line (the default faction for the player) & privateers still hate the aerans. Considering this, the in game readout shows how the factions feel towards you, not how you feel towards them.
In other words... if you want both the pirates & the uln to hate each other you can set 1 to hate the other & then wait a while in game while the 1 that hates shoots ships causing the other to eventually hate them as well... Or else you'll need to modify the faction setting for *both* to hate each other for it to take immediate effect.

I got a little lost on how to make the different factions to fight a eachother. Can somebody explain it a little bit more clearly?

If you want to see factions fighting back up your save game and replace your 0 factions begin table with this one.

Anyone know about where in that table the Rlann and Rlann Brinn factions are located? Like, what line, what column?
On a slightly related note, does anyone know if it is possible to change the values of the hatred caused by killing things? For some reason, I think that the Rlann should hate me much more if I kill a starbase then if I kill a little ship.

I've only been playing for about a week but this thread explains a lot: don't do what I tried before finding it, and simply remove all of the '-' characters from the table to just make all of the values positive.
Well don't unless you really enjoy being persecuted by everyone because soon as you kill anyone (even luddites), after making all of the values positive, everyone likes everyone else.

As I've only just moved from cargo runs to missions I figure I'll just replace the block with a fresh one from a new game but at least now I know why my reputation with the confed (and everyone else for that matter) was getting worse instead of better every time I completed one of their bounty missions.
