One horrible Clydesdale pilot...
So I am still in Cephus 17, staying in my own backyard until my Llama is all pimped out and maybe get enough credits (slowly) to buy another ship and deck it out. I've got this nice little run between Atlantis and Serenity, taking Coffee, Halogen, and Porn to Serenity and bringing Fuel, Raw metals and Gems back. A nice run, could do with a third location nearby to round out the triangle trade, but its ok if a little boring. Making maybe 30-50k per run with two extra cargo holds (is this the max you can have in the Llama?) coming to 600 m^3. I've got a couple hundred K and figure I would do this maybe half a dozen more runs and I would be set to buy something a little bigger.
I come out of Serenity, just barely start heading back to Atlantis and decide to do a quick flyby of this big-a$$ Clydesdale that was right there. And hey, why not dock and make a little cash while I'm at it. I do the trading, exit and that big monster must have been doing some heavy maneuvering. When I docked, we were at least 10 km from Serenity, and when I launched, suddenly I'm getting smacked by the Clyde, hit F7 to see where I am and get the heck away from this big beast. I see that I am indeed moving 90 degrees away from the Clyde, with it's motion relatively "down" (I was matched when we docked, honest!) Unfortunately I have a view looking down on my ship along the Clyde and towards the front, and barely caught seeing this monster of a ship PLOW STRAIGHT INTO SERENITY MINING BASE!!!! Gawd I wish I was present enough to get a screenshot, but I'm still a novice and was too busy making sure I didn't get stomped.
Needless to say, the explosion was a little... awesome. I am seeing parts of both flying everywhere, including into my ship! I hit F1 and bolt out of there to escape any debris, and when I finally settle down, I've got no shields and my armor is toasted. Luckily my repair bot took care of all the damage except for the armor, which I had to have done back at Atlantis.
I have to say that when I logged in, this was the LAST thing I expected to see. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
Unfortunately, I have now lost my money run. Guess it's time to leave the nest and see what's out there beyond the jump gates. More unfortunately, my relations with the Klkk went from +5 to -5 and with the Shapers from +10 to +5. I guess the Klkk blame me for the loss of their mining station and the Shapers their ship. Hey, I didn't do anything. Talk to the Clyde pilot. Oh wait, he's dead. Ummmm... Guess I just have to get friendly with my '1' key.
Wish me luck...

I had a similar "really unexpected experience" happen yesterday. I was running contraband, and ended up in Rlaan space. Anyway, a pirate Corvette started attacking some other ship, and the Corvette lost. KA-BOOM! ...and hundreds of boxes go flying everywhere, bringing me down to 2-3 FPS (I have 500M of RAM and a decent 128 MB video card, so my system's not a total slouch). I managed to dock, save, and quit. When I restarted, the system was full of Rlaan ships, and there was no cargo to be seen. Don't know if it's a bug, or a feature, or what.
It'd be nice if mining bases had a turret or something, though. Currently, they seem to be defenseless, which means that a pack of hungry Redeemers could take 'em out, eventually.

Ive had that happen to me. When you die and you respawn in the same system - chances are you will be able to tractor in your own cargo. The hostile that killed you will also still be prowling around. However if you quit, everything changes. Ships get randomly spawned again.
And wait... "SYSTEM TAKEOVERS"... does that happen?? I'm really a noob though I'm helping out with alien concepts, i haven't had time to really just sit down and enjoy VS.

A Step Into Oblivion
Dreams of things that will never be,
Songs of thoughts only I can hear,
Leave me be to sleep forever,
To dream my dreams,
And sing my hymns,
Of things that will never be...

To dream my dreams,
And sing my hymns,

Yeah. They're not terribly common, since they require pretty much total military supremacy in a system and there's not that many times when an invading faction will have a whole crapload of capships in-system and the defenders won't. Have yet to actually see one myself, actually, though I don't log a whole lot of playtime.
And yeah, capships ramming into stations are fun. I remembe back when I was testing my earliest models for the game I used the Mule's mass data and stuff for the unit entry, kept trying to dock this little tiny ship into the fighter entrances, going wide on my turn, and blowing up the entire station.

You probably didn't save after the station blew sky high.DancesWithProtons wrote:Oh, as it turns out as soon as I logged in, the mining station was back. Is this just with Cephus 17 because it is hardcoded or does the game do this everywhere? Oh yeah, I'm using 0.4.3. I guess I could upgrade but still learning this one lol.

Damn , I failed to take a screenshot of the action... it was so unexpected , too...
An LIHW Ox has been stalking me for a while , but I had no good way to get rid of it - to strong a defense to engage at short range , and heavy shields otherwise. So I kept trying getting it into trouble with other factions.
I played a bit of hide & seek with it around a rlaan fighter barrack , but those didn't want to shoot it down. I jumped to my destination system (callisto) and went for a nearby mining base , but took too long to dock before the Ox reached me again. I was panicking a bit as it had been building up speed , so I fled using the afterburner at the last moment. I turned back to see if it was still chasing me , and it was - but rammed the mining station and blew everything to bits !
Well , that was one less thing to trade with , so I stopped at a factory (after blind luck prevented me from crashing into it) then headed for another system. The jump in question was inside an asteroid field , but oddly enough , there was a capital ship inside as well. Its shields would keep flashing because of the constant collisions , but it seemed to survive. I took the jump and wandered in the unknown , but then fell prey to the evil surprise clyde just out of spec... well , my llama was no match for its hull

Yeah, those clydes can be surprising. Even though I get Watsons in my way more often...dunno if I'm in mechanist space or why those appear so often...

I've seen a clyde blowin' up... AWESOME.
I've found a Pirate asteroid mining base (or some like that). I been checked some price list, and decided to dock at it (cloaked, of course) with my Plowshare. I went to the nearest planet, changed my ship, and returned to the minning base... my eyes gone widely open when i've seen that a HUGE confed fleet found the base and opened fire at will.
Through the asteroid field, i was able to watch the shootings and the beams made both by the base turrets and the ships. Some times, i've seen a blow of a fighter finding a huge asteroid in its path. The base was quilckly rendered inoperative, and a clyde startded an aproaching course... it digged in the asteroid field... and, almost simultaneously, both the base and the clyde, blown up.
Fire, debris, and a still huge confed army, in the middle of an orgy of death. That was really awesome.
Obviously, i made a visit to the debris and picked up some stuff. I've missed the station, but i trust when i return to that system the station will be there... again, respawned. At least i really enjoyed it.

Damn, i've only been around since the latest build... alright, i'm still a newbie too...
I do, however, remember yesterday when i first learned about flight mode (using time compression in combat mode all week ) I like manuevering through asteroid fields (i only have a Llama, but they're small and fun) so there was this one time, i found a mining base inside an asteroid field (odd, i know) so i spec'd over to have a look... Came out of spec a few thousand Kilometers out, and forgot i still was in flight mode, i panicked, flew right into an asteroid blew up, blew the mining base up and swore at my computer... quick question, if you blow up a mining base for example, inside an asteroid field, do the asteroids actually blow up/even move past their preset pattern? And can you come out of a jump point in an asteroid field?

Welcome fuzzy_memories the asteroids do blow up you can even shoot them yourself i have only seen one instance of a jump point in an asteroid field and that is in the starting system pirates and Luddites like to hide in the rocks
