ehm ... enemies
Hi all ,
I'm totally newbie on Vegastrike, must say, quite good game ... I learn trade first, then looking about ship upgrades, ships etc. Next buying Hyena, and some patrol mission. I have 0 kills (it is strange because also 2-3 bounty missions have done, but OK..) but I cannot finish any patrol mission now.
Every where I travel, there are enemies. I am content if there are some pirates, but cycling "H" key I see hostile Ataraxia base, etc ... everywhere I travel, bases and planets becomes hostile. Do I something wrong ?

Re: ehm ... enemies
You got on someone important's bad side.
Check your relations with other factions, ataraxia should be kklk.
It's weird that 0 kills thing. Are you sure you're looking in the right place? (nav map shows kills per faction, and there are more factions than fit the screen, so you've got to scroll down a bit).

I don't see how Ataraxia could be hostile then. The only enemies you have according to that are aera and pirates.

Re: ehm ... enemies
If it isn't displayed, it's probably "individual unit relations". In other words, he scratched Ataraxia's paint and they got ma-a-a-a-ad!!1
The rest - dunno, if other units (around mining base, etc) don't fire, maybe it's just Station Patrol flightgroup? These are SPEC-enabled like anyone else, and NPC don't seem to lose targets out of radar range, so patrols tend to chase a sloppily parking ship all over the system.

A mission objective is sometimes "done" if the target unit is not killed, just messed up a lot. I tend to use lasers, and get to see it rather regularly.klauss wrote:It's weird that 0 kills thing. Unit relations wouldn't survive a save & reload though.

Re: ehm ... enemies
He didn't mention restarting or loading. But if it persists... maybe a ship collides on undocking? Hyena has parts sticking out fairly wide, Ataraxia is a Fighter Barrack, i.e. got side hangars, and "undock_turn_away=true" is evil like this.

Re: ehm ... enemies
That could be it. If so, then spamming Ataraxia with friendly messages should get it back to friendly in acceptable time.. though of course the hyena's bounding box should be fixed.

Hi,
I Explain problem again...
Flying patrol over some points, and near one of them my radar see red points and these soon firing me They are usually patrol fighter kikk .. My effort is with no fire meet point and fly away to next point.
but these red points tracking me, and their number grow .. soon I am ejected.
sorry for my English, I am MASSA BOB level ..
On bounty mission maybe i accidentally fire to friendly ship ... don't know
but many saves / loads/ restarts game from this time ..
with my Hyena I have no chance to complete any mission ...
Can you give me tip for good weapon for hyena ? These problems got me crazy, and I'm saying : Old good Frontier Elite II game !!! 48kb on ZX spectrum ...
I'm also playing GLFrontier - remake of this gold game and must say it's better

Oh... does your ship auto-target the hostiles when you approach?
That's the patrol mission! You accepted a patrol mission against the kklk. Be careful which missions you accept.

Re: ehm ... enemies
Yes, but where - right in Cephid17? It's klkk's own system.
But other than that, no idea.
As to arming Hyena... It's what - 2xL/S + 2xL + S ? There are no good weapons for this. There are only 2 decent (fair if you bind keys conveniently for missile popping and can actually do it) weapons for Light mount. So it's 4x Ion Burster / Pugilist + 1x Tractor, and it still got place for good reactor+shield.
But yes, Hyena itself is dubious to mediocre, even if you want a cheap attack craft for bounty / minor scavenging. 450 upgrade volume is good, but that's all. Robin can carry 3xL + missiles + rockets/cripplers/tractor and is even cheaper; Ancestor isn't much more expensive but got 2xL/A(!) + 2xL/M(!)+2xLm/Sm and 400 upgrade volume, but why not.
Generally, it's a good idea to optimize for some set of tactics - jousting or strafing, light capships (shield-piercing weapons) or gnats (disruptors), and perhaps pack a spare beam or autotracking Ionburster to swat missiles - ECM does not help every time. I'd get either Dostoevsky or Ancestor or Shizu (any Desert planet), but that's just my style: they're good at side-thrust dodging (hence dragon fly avatar ) and can carry shield-piercing weapons, which allows to whittle heavier stuff and/or de-turret low end capships without topped out equipment, so... a Light Ion Beam or MW Laser pays off quickly: Luddite Mule and Pirate Gleaner become easy prey.

Re: ehm ... enemies
When I'm on bouty mission, then yes, auto target my mission target.. When patroling, then not. With "N" key i only find my next waypoint. But when I try target hostile "H", and cycle hostile targets by H, bases appears on HUD. So I think they are hostiles. I can landing on them (sometime) but in most cases these small red points overpower me into plasmatic cloud.klauss wrote:Oh... does your ship auto-target the hostiles when you approach?

Re: ehm ... enemies
Maybe mystery explained ..
I was try start new mission ... after first take-off I'm try press "H" and no target change occurs. Then, near Ataraxia I was returned pointer into game (from other window) and accidentally fire. Nothing else. Now I can by pressing "H" see all bases and also many ships. But also I can landing like friendly .. Maybe same accident occurs in previous campaign ... As I say before, I'm newbie..
Thanks to all for help me

Re: ehm ... enemies
Factions take it badly if you damage or destroy their bases, either intentionally or accidentally. Even bumping into a base can make them decide to target you; and on top of that, most factions are allied with other factions, who will also become angry. Try spamming the hostile bases with 'F1' friendly messages, and when you manage to land there pick up a mission...preferably against Luddites. Almost everybody hates Luddites...except the Puritans of course.
Rescue missions will turn your rep around quickly but if you fail any mission your rep will go downhill with the faction who issued it.
In-system escort missions are usually the easiest to pull off...as long as the friendly makes it to their mission waypoint, everything is groovy.
My favorite (unmodded) light weapons are
-Micro Drivers for long range sniping of turrets. Also does 'phase damage', which means that it bypasses shields.
-Rippers for close in work. In the original game you can't buy Ripper ammo, so what you must do to 'reload' Rippers is to sell them & then buy them back. Works for any weapon you're having trouble finding ammo for.
-Pugilists also good for close in fighting, and they don't need ammo.
An overlooked ship for running missions is the Dodo. Believe it or not, this ugly duckling freighter will turn like a bat. When I use the Dodo, I usually trick it out with Rippers and a mix of tractors & repulsors, which make push-pull tearing phase damage together.
I think the devs made the Hyena a clunker so the pirates would be easier to outmaneuver. The Robin is a good mission ship, aside from the need to frequently land & refuel on long missions. Convolutions and Derivatives are both good mid-expense fighters, while the Gawain is the bomb if you can afford one. Hammers & Sickles also make decent killers.
If you stick with the Hyena, be sure to give it the turning jet 'shady mechanic' upgrade, and the biggest thruster you can shoehorn in/afford...a stock Hyena is a pretty easy target.
