Does anybody know if there is the spanish version of VS? I ask because I searched the forums a bit, but found no confirmation that somebody is done translating VS to spanish. Maybe I could help doing the translation, but (from what I've heard of) you need some C++ or python knowledge (which I don't possess). My skills in spanish and english are pretty damn good, so I think I could translate the game.
EDIT
I will be translating (slowly, I am alone) in a period of time. Anyone willing to help is free to do so. Note if anyone helps me, I will moderate whatever is translated before I give that to an administrator so he/she put it in SVN (I think). I will moderate since some people might want to "help" using a translation program, which in my experience is terrible for translating.
Translation Progress:
- Aera communications done.
- Andolian communications done.

Re: Spanish Translation
The only Python code involved is because some of the strings that need translating are in Python scripts so some knowledge is needed but no much the rest are in csv and xml files.

Re: Spanish Translation
I would keep all the files that you have translated in one place the German guys used a svn repo here on sourceforge as a separate project but think about it for a while and you may attract some helpers if they see activity here on the forum

Re: Spanish Translation
Ok so I send the files to you as attachments or something? Oh, and I assume only the data folder needs translation?
Yes, some little help would be nice I would lead of course I'm feeling alone though

Re: Spanish Translation
Any luck with this?
It's up to you how you want to do this. If you want you can make a sourceforge project like the german translation did.
Or, you can email or upload them and send to one of the developers--it's easy to make branches in subversion that hold the translated data.
The cleaner you make your format, the easier it will be. You can start with the simple XML files, or you can go directly to the Python code, and to translate strings, you can do something like this:
And then where you see that text, replace it with strings["cargomissiondesc"]
But python code may be tricky to start with so you can try some of the other text--the way I pick something is to play the game and see something that strikes me as important to get translated. For example the help text on screen, or maybe the communictations, or the bartender's speech. Don't waste your time translating stuff that nobody ever will see!

all_strings = {'en': {
"cargomissiondesc": "This cargo mission will cost %f and go to the system %s",
},
'es': {
"cargomissiondesc": "Esta misión tendrá un costo de carga %f e ir al sistema de %s", # (Sorry if this makes no sense -- I ran it through google translate)
}
}
LANG='es'
strings = all_strings[LANG]

Re: Spanish Translation
Thanks for the help ace!!! Yes, as you said I began with simple XML files, communications specifically. I started and have done quite a number of comm translations, so I will keep updating the list of translated stuff in my first post of this thread. Again, thanks for your help ace. Might learn a bit of python as well
