wouldn't take much to grab the privateer remake (since that's pretty simple and quite close to xwing in all honesty) and replace ships with star wars equivs...

I couldn't wait to see Tie Fighters replacing talons and X-wings replacing demons and a-wings replacing stilettos
(Z-95 headhunters replacing ... err... tarsuses?!) lol

would be funny as a first stab at it---until it got more advanced would have the right number of blasters--at least

There is a quite competent community out there that still mods the old X-Wing Games, mostly XWing Alliance. Maybe there are people willing to help this mod as there is discussion flaming up every now and then within the community make a new X-Wing game or mod an existing engine.

xwaupgrade is fast dying. Not that it has a whole lot of momentum anyway - the game itself is fast receding intot he background. That could be a good thing for VS, mind you. Give them another project to throw the same work into....

Thats why I posted this link. Getting some of them to take a look into Vegastrike could get the VS community some skilled people and may give new live to this SW Mod.

I have posteda few other times o nthis board, and i try to stay up with it.

I really like the discussion on the SW MOD. I stand ready to assist. I have a few ideas to add. Instead of working i nthe general idea of macthign other star wars games, we should focus on some new concepts that where never addressed by the games:

I know that sounded like a big chunk of WTF. But ere:

Multi-directional cannons. Tie Fighters havng the ability to rotate, move , and adjust there cannon fire - all while note moving there craft.

Targeting computers - I know a few engieners at lucas arts want us to think that there map views where the targeting computers, but i think we cna take some Star Wars fan-mod lisence here and come up with a new uses for our friend the black box.

The Sounds - Why lucas arts doesnt do this in any game I will never know. We have several movies, dvds, and we can get the sounds of the weapons. ** Lucas Arts could have ripped their own Tie fighter sound for use in SW Battlefronts, but instead shoose to recreate the sound of garbage. I dont think we are that bad, we cant get the darn sound clips. This goes for computer beeps, artoo beeps etc.


These are just a few things never seen in games of the Space Cobmat Simulator genre. Im sure we will come up with many more. Like Allowing peopel to be Han Solo in that they can make " a few personal modifications". Something we can get from VS.

Beisdes ideas, i also 3d model, py-code, java-code, c-stuff, i love ot mess with sound forge, and well if we need it to get a good mod, i will flipping learn it.

Hey All! , Im a newb to vegastrike & loving this game .

cool...well the first thing I think you folks should do is play around with the wings xmesh exporter--that allows easy placing of weapons on models...get them into xmesh format and get a units.csv going for the star wars game--
I'd suggest building off the wing commander privateer remake since that bears much similarity to the star wars universe and just adding things bit by bit (first thing add green laser and red laser to weapon_list.xml hehe)

Lets Make this happen please!!

I am still in the newb stages of learning how to add ships infact.. thats about all i know how to do at this point, and we are talking "just" adding the ship without turrets/engine/cocpits or custom engines.

So!!
Seeing that i have all these ships, and beautiful as they are..
is there any way we can all work together trying to make this work?

If so .. how can we organize ? where do I post these
beautiful models for some1 with more know how to prep them?
who is doing the sound? who is doing the missons when the ships are completed? seeing as the forums have disabled file attachments booo!!

mind you I can make great looking models but I have no ttime to sit her and mak modls 24 7

and these are amazing models so why waste time making my own? :D

yes i have added quite a few now but, as i said above
they are not fine tuned or anything & they have no r
eflection map 'YET'

I have found a while back a nice little tool to convert meshes from
1 to the other, and it works great!!

though it seems to support all formats EXCEPT wings but
you can just import whatever it is and convert it into .3ds
wings supports that

anyways, its called 3d object converter
and i highly recomend this tool
to get it click here:

I've read most of the Star Wars books (X-wing series, NJO series, misc) so I think I have a pretty good feel for the Star Wars universe. If this project is still live, I can pretty much write a storyline for it if anyone needs me to.

Hi,

I'm willing to start working on this mod. I'm not a modeller (if I tried to model the ships myself they wouldn't look much better than the one's in the original X-Wing game) but I think I'm able to get them into the game and do some balancing. I haven't done anything in Python yet but I think it will not be too hard for me to learn enough to build the missions I want. What I'm planning for the near future:
- get a model for the TIE Fighter, the Z-95 Headhunter and the Nebulon B frigate and get them into the game
- make some weapons (lasers, ion cannons,concussion missiles and proton torpedoes should be enough for a start)
- get models for the Y-Wing and the TIE Bomber and get them into the game

That would be enough for some very simple frigate vs frigate missions

- get models for the Delta transport and the Lambda shuttle and get them into the game
- get a model for the freighter from X-Wing and get it into the game

That would be enough for more complicated missions.

As I said I can probably get the models into the game (haven't done it yet but it doesn't sound too hard) and do some balancing but as long as nobody supplies me with 3D models for these ships I'm stuck with the ones that come with Vegastrike, so I would appreciate any help (and I'm not talking about models downloaded somewhere from the internet with dubious license ;-) ).
