There is a very big dilemma between two things -- creating full simple 2d Universe map and 3d space in VegaStrike.
One the one hand -- we need good map to make people feeling comfortable in huge open space. They need to know how to get from star system A to star system B quickly.
So we need to provide them with good 2d Universe map.
On the other hand we are faced to 3d reality of VegaStrike engine.
Any thoughts about this?

The 2d is not a problem. And in federation space, we have quite some information about federation worlds.
Of course, we have to add some uninhabited systems in between for completeness. However, we have almost no information about romulan/cardassian/klingon etc. star systems. There our fantasy must invent a lot of systems.
