Star Trek Mod

Post by Mandrake »

I believe peteyG had started a Star Trek mod, and there was 2 forum strings for it. Since the forums were wiped, I might as well start a new forum topic.

The discussions(might)continue here.

Well, to kick off this new thread here, I'll post a new screenshot!

Go ahead and browse away in my bbcrap directory! There's a bunch of Trek related pic-age there that I'm not going to repost. : )

This is a nice pic of a small fleet. Notice the new Miranda class starships in the background there! A nice variety of starships will make the battles much more interesting!

I was browsing the sourceforge listings today and I noticed something VERY odd...

there's a release here called... Vega Trek

but I don't think the download was working, something about a proxy error, but maybe that was my side only-- it seems brand new...could this be related to what we've seen here

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=52085

leaked binaries anyone?

I think you're wrong Hurleyburd
Vega Trek is a separate project from wcuniverse look at the file release structure...wcuniverse has released nothing, but vega trek has

have you been able to download the file or are you getting odd errors too

maybe you vocould give us a directory listing of the files

Leaked binaries? heh. Anyone can have a current binary. I am confused by Vega Trek though.. It seems to be a WCU site..

Anyway, that Galaxy looks great. Somehow I thought the stuff on the top of the platter (dunno the term, sorry) was only textured. From that last screenie, it looks 3-d. (could be raised more?) Nice. Is that a new addition?

Yeah, that was just supposed to be a backup of what I had on my harddrive (just in case I lost my computer somehow or something). It should all work if you just unzip it into a VS directory (one of the alpha releases floating around should work too).

It's not perfect, and it doesn't have some of the texturing improvements I've made over the past week or so. So one shouldn't expect too much from it.

I'm working on creating a more playable game right now, for the first real release.

MamiyaOtaru: The Galaxy's been pretty much mostly textured for a while now! I thought I've pretty well shown it off in all the Galaxy screenshots of the (which can be reached at http://students.washington.edu/peteyg/bbcrap), but oh well. I still need to do a fair number of little 'improvements' to the texture still.

Hurleybird: I've got an nvidia Geforce 4 440 2go! (the laptop version of the GF4), with 4x antialiasting and 2x antistropic filtering going on.

wait until he adds the damage maps
then when the ship gets hit the lights will flicker.... sparks will come out and various parts of the ship will be busted

The features that HellcatV keeps coming up with... they are absolutely perfectly suited to a Star Trek mod. I'm really looking forward to applying them!

Anyways, I've been tinkering around, making a Sector 001 sector for Vega Strike, with Sol, Tellar, Andoria, Alpha Centauri, and Vulcan. I've been working on making a few 'customized' planets, and I started off with Vulcan. This is all based off the default desert texture that came with the last release of VS (good job to the original artist!).

This screenshot here showcases some of the improvements to the engine that Hellcatv's made since the last release. Particle damage effects, and post destruction ship breakup!!!

I think it is included in the minimalist release.
Unfortunaltely i can't check it because i'm currently working on a 120Mhz Pentium with no 3d card  (*shudder* shared ISDN-line *shudder*)

Do you need to have multiple xmesh files to make a ship break up like that? Or can you use a single xmesh to do it?

You don't need to have several meshes.
for example: The warbird is made of one single mesh (exept for the glow-lights).

I just finished a quick texture for this new model I did... and it's so funny that I've got to share it.

It's the Doomsday Machine, from the TOS episode... "The Doomsday Machine". a devourer of worlds.

hellcatv says we can make it specifically go after planets, and such. It will make for a neat encounter out on the frontier, or something.

Yes, well, I understand. TOS means The Original Series, which refers to the first Star Trek series.

Here's a picture of the original. I recall a rumor that it was made from toilet paper rolls.

In retrospect... I can imagine that someone who didn't know what the Doomsday Machine was would be completely wierded out by a picture of a turd modeled in wings. Sorry. : )

I know we can destroy planets because my insanely modified ejection seat(really the HandLaser) can point-click, desrtoy..anything that has a impactable mesh.
what about star destroyers? when you turn Draw_star_body on, you can also destroy the stars..
Hey Hellcatv, shouldn't the other planets fly off into space when the star they orbit is destroyed?
right now all that happens is the universe loses a light fixture and the universe goes black.. shouldn't there be a huge explosion or something when the stars explode, maybe taking out the planets in some huge radius and also destroying any and all ships in the area.

P.S. the warp balls are too wimpy, they are easily destroyed, they should not be able to be destroyed, because they are put there by your computer..
and what about a moster-thing that eats suns as well.

Oh Yeah.. that's a great model PeteyG, keep up the good work with the Trek-stuff.
Hey, how about making the NC-01, from the newest in the trek-style series, Enterprise
Excuse me sir, can you tell me how to get to Omicron Persei 8?
