Newbie need help

hello all.
looks like an awesome job you re doing here but.....
I have a problem, I downloaded the files
(wcu-devel.0.2.3.zip,wcu-2006-patch1.zip&wcu-2006-patch2.zip)
ok
installed the whole thing
ok
launch the game
ok
then I dock at the 1st station...;and nothing! no commodity exchange no ship dealer no mission terminal no guilds ....no way back to ship either :shock:
so here s my question, what did I do wrong? do I have the right files?
please help me! it s been so long since I flied those ships...now that I know it s possible again it hurt to fail so close

Which base is this? The asteroid mining facility in Troy?

I haven't been able to get WCU to work on it's own to be honest. Just the Privateer remake.

I'm no dev, so I can't help you. What I can do is telling you, that you have my deepest sympathy... cause I suffer from the same problem ;)

What base was it in, and what ship was it?

As I said, right after the beginning. The base is New Detroit, the ship is the beginning Tarsus... of course, if you can't go on in the game...

following the advice I ran vegastrikeR.exe
(note: btw the launcher use vegastrike.exe)
and it start the campaign just like the original(except I don t remember starting with 2mil+ creds :D )
so I buy a jump drive and head for new D, jump to pender star ok, jump to junction ok, then bad things happen
...jump point not working to new constantinople or any other destination :?
stranded again ...oh well there s a pleasure planet in system...I ll find way to enjoy myself until new development :lol:

Not sure which ship you're flying, the milspec variants consume jump fuel for the afterburner, so if you afterburn a lot you get stranded.

Ok,

I started testing and the game works fine so far. I stopped testing and returned to my real work as soon as I noticed, that there are no automatic landingzones in WCU anymore... :mrgreen:

Are you sure?

I've been jetting around in a Broadsword for a while now in Priv and haven't noticed any significant fuel consumption from afterburning - and I use it about 80% of the time.

I tried again, this time watching my fuel jauge (tough the starting tarsus isn t millspec) and still nothing :? the "jump" indicator doesn t light up when I reach jump point just like there was no jumppoint.
stranded again. at least I hope it ll help troubleshooting

You DO have a Jump Drive in full repair, right?

I DO have a working jump drive (did 2 jump fine) and I still have 1/2 of fuel jauge...

In full repair though? It can get damaged in a dogfight, and if it does, you're stranded, unless theres a friendly capship, or base to land at.

I never had hostile contact so nothing could have damaged the ship .
I tried again and again and allways the same thing... I can make the jump to junction fine then no way out.
next I ll download again and reinstall( in case something went wrong in download / install)
dunno if it can help the troubleshooting but I installed PR 1.2 without any prob and it run just fine. can I try swapping .system file into WCU or are the engine separate ?

So, you downloaded and reinstalled and had the same problem again?
That's very odd; I would have thought it was a damaged system file or savegame. You reinstalled into a new folder, or over the old one?
Under the .priv100 folder there are some cacheing folders that wouldn't be overwritten. You could try running the reset_universe.bat batch file.
I don't think you can use the Junction system from PR; there are added jumps off Junction, in WCU.
In any case; you shouldn't expect a bug-free game; WCU is very much a work in progress.

Elohim, there are plenty of ways to damage something without hostile countact. Ever heard of asteroid feilds? ;)

You can put the WCU universe into Privateer (it'll just break the nav-comp), but you can't do it the other way, for the reasons Chuck noted.
