I sent it to Daniel... want me to put it on my server?

If Daniel has it, I'm sure he'll take care of it.

WCU Alpha-2 / Patch 16

Post by spiritplumber »

Patch at

http://www.spiritplumber.com/priv_remak ... atch16.zip

Full download (recommended) at

http://www.deeplayer.com/spiritplumber/ ... ha-0.2.zip

Fixes are:

Fixed "jump into system, crash or freeze" bug -- was due to a subunit calling itself

Fixed "crash on trying to change ships after blowup"

Fixed insanely long travel times through asteroids ;) hopefully -- if not, increase the number in asteroid_distance in vsconfig (keep sign)

Hopefully fixed bad textures for jump points in the patch (definitely fixed in full download)

New stuff is:

Capship resized (fireskull)

Better look when assuming a formation -- looser formations somewhat

Capships order their fighters around now

Hangar & hidden space finally work properly

Minor cleanups all round with AI

Nav map looks a lot less cluttered

I think that now we have something stable enough to start working on plot, so...

bye guys, it's been real :) best of luck!

Thanks, Spirit; and best of lucks to you too; I hope you solve whatever personal stuff's bugging your life and come back to continue work on WCU. I'm sorry I haven't done much lately for the plot; first was the transition to the new computer, and now I'm doing some work with CoffeeBot on a space elevator station for Vegastrike. I should be back to working on the plot in about a week I reckon. Haven't heard from Captin cocksniff lately ^^, hope he's still around. I'll download this version and try it out right away, though.

EDIT:
Spirit, the link didn't work, so I looked in my server and I found a strangely named file, about 130 megs, so I renamed it to the filename you posted, and downloaded it, but Windooze tells me it's not a recognized archive...

The "strange file" was a tempfile for the main download.... it was still uploading...

now i gotta upload it all over :) when it's finished it should be around 290mb. This might take a few horus (crappy upstram bandwidth)

Chuck you did some AMAZING work with the background btw. Thanks. A ton and a half. For that inaddition to the other stuff.

what else... oh yes, a little storyline change: WCU specific ships now should appear in the plot, for example

- Seelig has a Cutlass
- Miggs flies a fully kitted Orion (sorry, but the guy couldn't physically fit in a talon!) and his flunkies have Razors, since Lynch is rich
- Toth comes in a passenger transport -- in general Draymen carrying passengers have been replaced by passenger transports or "limo" shuttles

small stuff like this. I have NOT updated Tayla's missions so that you get a hidden cargo space yet tho.

DOH! Sorry about that, Spirit ^^ But uou shouldn't post the link before fully uploading, though. Have you always done that?, because several times before I had problems of corrupted downloads, and I'm thinking now maybe it was because I was downloading them before they were fully uploaded. Besides, after you post the link people that start downloading will reduce the server bandwidth and slow down your upload.

Something just occurred to me: Maybe there should be a few extra columns in units.csv to specify the year a ship is first produced, the year it reaches maximum "population", and the year by which they disappear from the galaxy, as well as a "max population" column. That way, the game engine could control how many of each ship there should be around at any given year. I kind of miss seeing Draymans around... ^^

Still corrupt file?

Post by Wendy »

I'm showing a file at 91.8 MB on the server at this address:

http://www.deeplayer.com/spiritplumber/

The downloaded file is showing roughly 94.7 MB on my drive and...

Rar is throwing the folloing error...

wcu-alpha-0.2.zip Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive
Either it didn't go up yet, or it didn't go up cleanly.

Looks like the patch is fine so far.

If I delete what I had already, and then get the full download, I won't need to patch it right? I ask because I want to start over completely with WCU, so that mabye some of the problems I had will be fixed, and I want to be sure Im doing it right.

re-re-uploading.... damn cable >_<

i wonder if they'll announce 0.2 on wcnews? ;) prolly not if I tell them...

My plans are to:

* Leave programming alone entirely for 2 or 3 weeks, to get a break;

* After that ,work on the data side some -- nobody's taken the job to do docking points on stations and capships, so I'll have to

* At some point, put in Battle of Earth specific ships and, if at all possible, Pioneer ships if I get permission to

* Help with piArmada 0.9 since it uses some WCU stuff

* Buy cookies

* Eat cookies

CLARIFICATIONS:

* If you get the big file you don't need anything else.

* Some plot related stuff is on sale normally because this way we can test it. (militia fighters, torpedos)

* IF you make subsequent patches and want them hosted, or need help, email me.

* Soundserver.exe is supposed to spawn twice if you pick full sound and music.

* Some things probably need balancing.

* You're not supposed to replace the turrets for the Caernaven at this stage, sorry.

Been informed that my server may be shut down between 4 pm and midnight tonight. Switching over to a new server. That's deeplayer.com, where the full download is, so try not to start a download during that time, just in case you've downloaded 270 megs and then it cuts off on ya...

I was downloading System Shock at the underdogs and had 123MB of 124 at 5Kbps and often slower, I had over three hours of download in when Mozilla froze me out. Talk about wanting to scream.

How did I ever manage all those years without Broadband?

S'why dedicated download programs are a must for any long / unreliable download. I use lftp, and I can resume any download from any URL.

(Not that I'd ever need to download System Shock, given that I have three legal copies... two CDs and one set of floppies(!). ;))

I feel newbyish for asking this, but wisq's ranking reminded me of it. What is an ISO? And where are those space communists I have heard about?
