So I've just downloaded WCU for the first time since 2007, I'd love to play around with it, trouble is I can't seem to get the game to run smoothly on my current PC. The game runs painfully slowly, spaceflight is almost impossible to achieve.

Now before the wisecracks begin about the best solution being to get a better PC, please understand that I'm poor and unable to upgrade until early next year

My setup is as follows:

Intel Celeron D 3.0ghz
1014MB RAM
Direct X version: 9.0c

Graphics card? hahahaha. I'll call it 'display device': Intel Q965 [standard built in video card]
Total mem: 256mb

OS: Microsoft XP professional [PC gets used for work too]

My current settings are as follows:



and the game is unplayable... any tips on what I can change?

Hi DanR i think that this maybe your problem Intel Q965 that and the fact we don't use Dx9 but OpenGL can you run any of the quake engine based games as they also use OpenGL and have tried updating the drivers to the latest available from Intel as IIRC there Linux driver for that chip supports OpenGL as DX9 is strictly for Windows.Just checked the release notes for the latest driver it should support OpenGL 2.0 and extensions for your chip the version number is 14.36.5.5016 if yours is lower then i would update.

Thanks loki1950, switching to the 14.36.5.5016 driver set has massively improved gameplay, and in low detail I can now get the game to run smoothly. Still though, I think what this shows me is that it's time to get a decent graphics card

i cant get WCU to start...
was a little interested and downloaded it.
when i started the game, it only lasted until the main menu screen... after a few secs, the .exe closes and gives me a error message.

im also facing the same problem with privateer PU...
only difference is that i cant start a new game or load one.

i have no problem with vegastrike.

Hi parkel i had to do a few modifications to PU to get it to run there where a few missing files as to WCU it uses an older version of the VS engine from before i jioned but could you post the stdout and stderr for both.
