I'm doing a website for WCU. Can I have some insight please?

Discuss the Wing Commander Series and find the latest information on the Wing Commander Universe privateer mod as well as the standalone mod Wasteland Incident project.

I have been asked to make a website for WCU, and am familiar with the basics of Wing Commander, but I would like to discuss it for web design purposes... can I have some insight on what should be done?

People can email me at screamingorganism(at)gmail(dot)com.

No frames. Frames, no.

At the front page we would need something like

"Heya folks, this is the WCU project and its about....( description follows )"

Then, it would be cool to have a place were people can e-mail the devs and such, a link to our boards, and a page that sort of has our progression in %. oh and of course, plenty of cool screenies.

Cue Kenny Loggins' song from Top Gun OST.

I have since removed the frames and am going for a more retro yet still updated feel (Instead of an early 1980's look it looks more like late 1980's).

The buttons are green and when you rollover them they turn red, I am also considering adding a script that changes your mouse cursor into a gunsight. a

Also a nice screenie gallery will be added. More later.

Gallery may not be possible. It seems Javascript is a little bit further than my actual grasp of programming than I thought. :(

OH SNAP! I GOT SERVED!!!

Post by Screaming Organism »

I wasn't really trying for a gallery, SP wanted a page so that people could look at screenshots. I have fixed the problem with an albeit noobish solution, but I'm not happy about it.

Site is coming along well... I'm having issues connecting to SP's server. I uninstalled SmartFTP, installed CuteFTP, fiddled with some options in CuteFTP, I just don't know how I can just not connect. At this point I have to ask three questions:

1. Is it a setting on my computer that needs to be changed?
2. Is it my computer itself?
3. Is it SP's server?

To test if you can really access the FTP port of that server do the ff:

1. Open a Dos box (I'm assuming you have Windows)
2. type in the command :

telnet <server name or IP address> 21

This checks the default port of the FTP service (port 21)

3. You should see a welcome banner ie. "Welcome to XXX FTP server" or something like that.

If that fails then see if your FTP client settings are correct or check your firewall settings. If both are ok then bug your ISP :)

Nice! The starry background should be bigger, tho, as to not look so obviously repetitive. I like Spirit's pic in the about screen :), but I can't read Latin ^^ Love the logo and the buttons.

For inspiration on the website, please look at Privateer Gemini Gold's website - http://priv.solsector.net - as it looks very smart. We should be aiming for something like that, although perhaps not quite so constrained and slightly more colourful.

I wonder what's the status of your site and where is the place to find it?
Do you even have an up to date site?
Is the solsector site still the official place to go?

I think so :) email at screamingorganism@gmail.com if you want YOUR site worked on, too.

Also, did you ever grab the shaped shields?
