To the ones who want to help but dont know how.

I am ridiculously busy RL right now, and so I am leaving the more time consuming tasks I had for WCU for later on, as of now I am just scripting systems when I can. This leaves a more important task unnatended: Fixing ships.

Basically, the great majority of the starfighters we have in game have at least one thing wrong with them that needs fixing. Be it their afterburn speed or a neutron gun where there should be a ion cannon.

This wont require a lot of knowloadge about code, you will need to work with units.cvs, which is like a file where all the data about starfighters and other IG objects is. Its basically a excel file with about 800 rows and 800 collumns :P.

What it will take:

*About 6 to 8 hours of work, 2 glasses of coffee and a pizza.

*Patience to check more than a single source for the actual data of ships

*in game testing

*Medium knowloadge about WC, just knowing how the ships should "feel" like is enough

*You wont need to have any experience with code, though it helps. I barely know HTML and I could do the whole thing by myself if I had enough time to.

Whoever wants to take on this, just PM me your e-mail and this weekend, because i wouldnt have time to do this outside of a weekend, I will e-mail you back with links to the sources I was using to check out the starfighters stats, the program I was using to edit units.cvs along with more in detail instructions, including what ships have the more serious "bugs".

If more than one person is up to this I will pick the one who has more WC experience, so tell me what games you have played before.

Of course, I will test the new file for bugs and such before its official, but your work will be used.

A note: If you find that you can infinitely upgrade your ship, it means that it does not have a corresponding .template entry in the units.csv table, for example:

raptor.stock yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada
raptor.template yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada

If there is no .template, generate one by copy/pasting the normal entry
into a .template entry.

Ships that the player will be allowed to fly should ALWAYS have their own
extension, for example .stock or .decommissioned this is done in order to
avoid conflicts when that entry is modified by the game when you buy upgrades -- occasionally this would buy the same upgrade for all the ships in that class.

Be careful with turrets please. The Caernaven's turrets are a special case, DO NOT MODIFY unless you know exactly what you're doing. Other than that, in general we have:

turret_medium For fighters. The ones you buy.
turret_medium_locked For small capships. Same as above, bigger capacitor.
turret_capship Artillery style turrets with heavy guns, for big capships.
turret_base Just for bases. These also occasionally spawn fighters.

Ah. That explains it. Thats one prooblemo down the drain. Methinks i shall volunteer for this, whilst I wait on getting photoshop to play with cockpits. I have a bit of knowledge about the old wing commmander ships already, being obsessed and everything :D. And I think i finally trust myself to play with cvs files now.
Unfortunately I don't know your email, and it isn't on your profile.

YPR have two values each -- max. YPR and angular acceleration for yaw, pitch and roll. They're after the shields and armor, I think. Linear accels and afterburner speed is just after -- here too you have acceleration and max speed/AB speed.

Go to column 50, there you will see its labeled "Maneuver_Yaw" The next collumns all deal with y/p/r values.

I could be wrong about this, but it seens to me its easier to change the governors than the maneuvers. The columns that are labeled like Yaw_Governor show values in degrees/second, which is easier from Manuever_yaw at degrees*metric tons/second.

Afterburner and normal max speed are at 63 and 64. They show as kilometres per second in game, but the REAL unit we use is metres per second. The KPS thingy IG is just so because origin somehow confused metres with kilometres in all WC games.

Currently I am trying to fix the Dralthi IV. Fireskull outlined a few problem ships and it was one of them. Of particular note is its turning. like a orion. I also created the Dralthi II, by pretty mish copy pasting a Dralthi I and giving it mass drivers. When I fix the Model IV, i will touch up the Mk II. I STILL can't find where in units.cvs it has the governor settings for the pitch, yaw, and roll, but I can see it in the appropriate file in the serialized_xml folder.
