Audio Quirk

As you said, Hellcat, it may well be an out of date file set, BUT,

Starting a saved game or landing at New Detroit causes the same quirk regardless. The fixer starts to talk as the launch pad gets ready to pop.

THEN, when I go into the bar to talk, the first dialogue round is in text and I do NOT see a talking head.

Figured it out.
I'm not clicking on Tayla, yet I'm already getting printed dialogue, as soon as I enter the bar. I shouldn't get ANYTHING until I click on her. That's what was throwing me.

BUT, since I get a blurb of dialogue as soon as I land/start the saved game, (I took off and landed again) I get reverb with the dialogue, like the file is playing TWICE.


Here's a copy of stdout. As you can see, the file IS playing TWICE. One for each channel? TIming is off on the first instance, then.

It doesn't matter if you've gone 'round the horn for Sandoval, I'll find out in a bit about Tayla. But I loaded at New Detroit and heard Sandoval say "Welc..." before it cut out. I launched immediately.

Went to Oxford, killed some Retros.
Went to Perry and Nitir and Killed some Kilrathi and went back to New Detroit and got the sam clipped Welcome upon landing.

As soon as I entered the bar the text started to scroll across the top of the screen. When I clicked on him I got reverb for the first half of the Dialogue.

If I don't accept or reject and go back in and click on him it starts to behave normally. BUT I STILL get the text up top as soon as I enter the bar. Maybe it's because I listened to him once before?

any ideas?

Something to think about.

I'll run the campaign and let you look at this. Perhaps we'll see what is actually causing the error in the process.

I'll post the next stdout after I finish her campaigns.

very strange... I can definitely see that you are getting the convo twice--but I have no idea a) why I'm not getting it and b) why it's happening at all in teh first place...I'll have to try running it on my own I guess... I did just earlier this evening though with no such consequence...wodner what's different about our situations...

When I did my save, I had "spoken to the fixers" but not accepted or rejected their missions.

The odd part is being able to see the text start to scroll as soon as I walk into the room. Want the saved game to try it?

Tayla was fine after I ran sandoval.

It gets screwy if you talk at the fixer first and walk away!
There's what's causing it. You should see if you can replicate the error. I can, can you?

oh! so that's the difference...

you spoke, saved, then reloaded or then landed...

well then you're considered already dealin' with 'em

in the original privateer you couldn't even save till you made a choice...

that explains the problem completely then

In the future just reject before saving

speaking of which--should I make a 3x limit on how many times you can reject a person (or maybe just tayla) or is that just takin fun outta it

Well, you HAVE to talk at them. AND you HAVE to run their missions to finish the game.
If you lock them out, you lose because you did not finish the campaign. That means you have to put up a GAME OVER or YOU LOSE screen or the luser will NOT understand why they didn't progress through the campaign.
