/users/ deleted, wiki images missing

Post by Halleck »

I noticed that a lot of crucial images used on the wiki like the vsnav arrows and keyboard keys are missing. I saw that they weren't hosted on the gallery but on pontiac's webspace in http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users/.

I was dismayed when I tried to visit individual /users/ subdirectories and was greeted by a 404. Further investigation via my ssh account revealed that the entire directory had been wiped clean, removing pontiac's important wiki images along with it.

Does anyone know why this happened? More importantly, does anyone have backups of the images so they can be re-uploaded ASAP to the wiki gallery?

I noticed this too, everything under users is now under delete.me.trash/delete.me. Everyone who had a user directory there is now in the trash.

Can somebody move pontiac's folder back out? It will save us a lot of trouble if we can prevent it from being deleted.

Halleck, you can move them to my server for the time being, if you want; I got about 600 megs left.

Okay. I'll back up pontiac's wiki folder ASAP. I advise all users to back up their own folders if there's anything important.

We should also submit a request to the SF.net staff for an increased quota as soon as possible. With all the services we offer in our webspace, I think we have a compelling reason for a storage increase.

I've backed up what I deemed to be important, but it would be prudent if somebody else did a complete backup.

I'm re-uploading the images now to:
http://www.deeplayer.com/halleck/wiki/k ... ed_images/

EDIT: Done. These pages keep track of all the key images:
http://www.deeplayer.com/halleck/wiki/k ... ut_US.html
http://www.deeplayer.com/halleck/wiki/k ... erman.html

So... who wants to change all the wiki key templates? (A bot might be helpful.)

Halleck: I'm sure the wiki images are not very big... It would much easier to keep them in the original place. We just don't want the users directory to get big with old stuff that isn't used. The wiki stuff is clearly still used.

Also, considering that SF still hasn't responded to the reply I sent them a few weeks ago, I'm not sure if they will actually act on the quota or delete the delete.me.trash directory. We will see.

Okay. Either way, it's good to have a publicly accessible backup.

Alright, here's the next victim. Silverain's cargo images and the pdf- manual were in the /user/ directory and are now gone. I can't find the files in the trash.me/yadda too.

For your reference:
Missing cargo images had the url http://vegastrike.sf.net/users/silverain/cargo/
Files like precious.png, first_aid.png and many more are missing. Those were pending for inclusion into CVS and haven't beed commited yet. They were referenced from the Cargo:[cargoname] wiki pages.

The pdf-Manual was at http://vegastrike.sf.net/users/silverai ... _Guide.pdf
and was linked from http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/wiki/Manual

Any ideas?

Don't worry ... there exists an offline backup of all that stuff :-)

I'll see if we can get it uploaded somewhere .... you may want to nudge this topic in a day or so, not sure I'll remember posting this ;-)

I've got copies in various places. The manual .pdf is as per the CVS version (not been updated for some time). Maybe relink the wiki?

As for the cargo images, if someone is willing to upload to CVS, I can send them a .zip file of the images I have (PM your email address and I'll send as attachment). I think main reason they had not already been done so, is because we haven't resolved the cargo lists into a final form, with final naming.

Okay, I redirected the wiki link to the CVS version of the printable manual (v1.0.6). So, people looking for help are not greeted by a 404 anymore.

WRT the cargo images, I propose a preliminary inclusion into CVS until the reorganization of the cargo section (by JackS?) is finished. Deleting them later if not needed anymore won't be much hassle, I think. And people are dying to see them. Silverain, I'll send you a pm.

dana, can you confirm that the CVS master_part_list.csv is up to date? I remember some patches for it concerning cargo weigths and the like. I'd like to add the new cargo images to it.

Silverlain's actually the cargo dude .. once I get the time to help him get the new system implemented...

as for master part list, two things ... first is that no, the one sitting on my hdd is up to date, but that won't be in svn until I get back home (well, a couple of days after to finish the next set of changes) .... second is that I *think* development has moved to svn these days, but I'm not sure :-)

See the subversion (http://sourceforge.net/svn/?group_id=19507) link on the sourceforge project page :-)
