HAven't played EV Nova yet, but from what i seem from the screenshots/ship-descriptions it handles grafis exactly the opposit way vegastrike does:hurleybird wrote:the 3d stuff is just the pictures they use for ship descriptions.
EV Nova: low quality ships in game --- high quality ships (ship pics) in description
Vegastrike: high quality ships in game ---- simple description (if any) in the ships dealer

the emphasis is on gameplay...its easier to fight a enemy in a 2d game than in a 3d game..no offense to this game, of course....they made 2 earlier versions of Escape velocity...original, with just EV, and EV: override..the ships looked better and better..its meant so that it can play on a machine with not such high-end graphics
i'm sure they made those models so they could get the turning right in the game.

yeah, i could do that, but it would also make a good luxury cruise-ship to take people to and from pleasure planets.
multiple sizes, main thing.
you can specify the mesh size in the ship file..same mesh..different sizes/textures
i also made a flying suacer design if you're interested.

mmmm,
Nice design, but it strikes me as more a shuttle, private yacht than a larger ship/liner.
You need to definitely watch the copyright too. I think to avoid infringements you would need some fairly major changes. <suggestion> Remove the engines from the rear of the main body. Change the wing sections into the engines. I think something like that would be enough to invoke thoughts of EV Nova, but be a sufficiently different design.

Definitely watch out, you'd want to get the original author's permission or else even a derivative work could be a problem (especially if it's incorporated into the game proper, then it's a problem for the whole project). I'm sure that most artists wouldn't mind seeing their creations come to life though.
I'm also of the opinion that the thing looks a bit small to be a "liner". The sweep of the leading edge is quite reminiscent of the Jules Verve / Steampunk / Space: 1889 style. I think that sort of design could be quite popular as a luxury ship design. Have a look at http://www.steam-trek.com/ for some ideas perhaps.
Oh wow! The Musée des Arts et Métiers has a website! http://www.arts-et-metiers.net/ Unfortunately, it's only in French, so unless you can read that, you're stuck looking at the pictures... DAMN :) Anyone visiting Paris who is vaguely interested in science and technology, should spend a day there. Make sure you catch the metro there, the station feels like you've stepped out into the Nautilus :)

yeah, i was thining of making the side things into engine nacelles (may not be spelled right)
the main thing was, i wanted to make it look lieke in-evnova first, then change it so its unique..just a test of my own abilities...i'll get rid of the engines in the back(they aren't attached anyway) and make the side things the engines.
and i don't have any in-game pics yet, have not been able top get it to load yet...i don't have textures for it and i put it in place of the eject_pod..so i'll get to work on it as soon as i get home(i'm at UAB now)
will work on it later today, around 4:00 PM central time
