per pixel glow... which VS supports... peteyG's great galaxy model uses this for the warp nacels.

I have no idea how the glow in Splinter Cell or any other game works, but I'm pretty sure that the technique that I've used to create glows is a cheap hack.

It gets the job done, but I believe that there is a better way.

Until then... check out the tutorial I whipped up on the VS-wiki

I may be mistaken, but on the earlier forums i posted per pixel glow as a feature request, and hellcat said VS already supported it.

well the way the glow works eventually is that the video card draws triangles that end up looking like glow (brighter in the middle darker outside)
so the modeller can always do what a fancy 3d renderer with buiilt in glow would do

and MUCH faster than the engine could do it

so I leave the glow up to the creativity of the modeller

which in peteyG's case has been very successful--course he made some compromises that look fantastic...some people want it to look perfect--but I say peteyG's technique and just be doubled in resolution to get it looking perfect for the perfectionists

But more like this.

See how the glow bleeds inot the ship and the ship even cuts part of the glow.

But yeah your pic is basically the same thing. thats what I want.[/img]

hummm... i THINK that stuff is done by the game engine itself... it certainly looks impressive, though i bet you could get the same result with a 3D model, may just take a while to make.
