Aren't they in the data folder, inside a subfolder named ".vegastrike" (or similar)?

Nope. Win7 64bit seems to move everything.

First, you have to be able to view hidden folders. Type "show hidden folders" in the handy search bar at the bottom of the start button menu, and click the link that pops up at the top.

It should take you to a box of options, with a couple of radio buttons near the middle with the options you're looking for. Toggle "Show hidden drives, files, and folders" on and hit "apply", then "OK". You'll now be able to see the folder when we get there, but it ISN'T where you're thinking it will be.

Go to your hard drive, and instead of program files go to users\(your username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files. I know, right?

You'll notice that the AppData folder is dimmed, since it was hidden until we told Windows to stop screwing around. Once you're in that buried Program Files folder, if you can't find what you're looking for you have no business being in there.
Well, have fun editing your save file, and don't forget to save a copy first!
