Hi, all
I am part of the organising comittee for a small local scifi charity convention (for a local children's hospital), http://scifisydney.info.
We are investigating the option of showing vegastrike multiplayer LAN on a few PCs during the event.
Do we need to get permission to show this game in public and if so, who from? Or can someone please point me into the right direction. We would like to do the "right thing".
many thanks in advance
alex

Re: Vegastrike multiplayer at charity event?
If you do, I volunteer to provide a multiplayer world. Basically, instead of the normal, 1 planet world that is provided in the standard LAN games, it has 10 planets and 10 space stations. But you don't have to listen to me. I don't work for the Vega Strike team or anything like that. It would just be better than having 1 planet in my opinion.

On the about page are details about the license. It is "free" software. I'm not aware of any licensing issues. I'm also not the owner of the code, nor a Vegasrike representative. However the licenses apear to be GPL and GPL based. The about page "linked below" has links to the official licenses. They will tell you "in legalese" what you can and can't do.

Looie, some of your extra obligations under the GNU General Public License(www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html ), are summed up in the following:
If you hand out or sell copies of vegastrike to third parties, you also need to provide a way for them to access and use the source code. The easiest way to achieve this is to download the sourcecode from http://sourceforge.net/projects/vegastrike/files/ and there from http://sourceforge.net/projects/vegastr ... 2/download and then to include the source code on the same medium(CD, USB mass storage).
You need to include the GPL license text with the game(it is usually provided with the game anyway).
You also must not misrepresent the copyright ownership of the game, but I don't think you'd do that.
All IANAL and very much abbreviated of course.
