Multiplayer not working correctly?

Just downloaded Vega Strike and need help? Have a question but don't know where to start? Ask here.

dang. so isn't there the possibility that the server spawn and kill bots like the SP engine does? and even worse if you can't be admin remotely. maybe the MP code does require a little tweaking here and there xD
You can play as CPU only ships in the mod, if that helps any. :?
The problem is, it would be interesting to have many more ships around. Even 10 players in a server would feel quite empty, especially in such a big space we got in VS

Hey where do you put these? and, would these replace the SP configs too? sorry but I ain't got my VS installed yet. still backing stuff up before I format my box
You replace the units file with the units file, you replace the master_part_list with the master_part_list, you replace the weapon_list with the weapon_list, ect.

If your wondering where in the Vega Strike folder, thats simple.

Vegastrike -> Vegastrike-0.5.0 -> weapon_list.xml
Vegastrike -> Vegastrike-0.5.0 -> master_part_list.xml
Vegastrike -> Vegastrike-0.5.0 -> units -> units.csv

Atleast, thats how it is on my computer. I didn't add or remove any folders, so if you are sticking it in a 0.5 version of Vega Strike, it should be the same way.

Did I forget to tell any of you that the mod was made for 0.5? If you really want I can make another for SVN, but you might have to wait 30 mins or so. :lol:

oooooh... Well, I suppose if you track down the Clean Sweep mission file for multiplayer, you can edit how many ships it spawns at a time... But that might not be the most practical solution to the problem... :|

BTW whats an SP config?

It probably automatically disables the hundreds of bots you would have because of the load on the server. I did have the server automatically spawn like 8 progeny's once in a death match server, here's the recipe for anyone interested:

1) edit the Network.system file to have a battle station in orbit around the planet
2) Dock at the station and take a mission that says there may be enemies
3) Do the mission and be on the lookout for friend and foe!

Now there is a command if you are admin to give another player admin powers, so I'm wondering if you can just manually edit the save game for a given player and add in a line that makes him an admin. Once this is done I think the admin can do a bulk spawn and create like 100s of something with one command.

If you use the account server you can also be alternative ships like the KAHAN :twisted: but if you've gone and done it for deathmatch..... sweeeeet.

Speaking of the network file, can you give me an example of what I should type into the network file to add bases to the multiplayer environment?

Yes, yes it would. Thats why when I got SVN I made it for 0.5, because 0.5 had missions in multiplayer and SVN did not. I will try and make a SVN version. I'll post it when its finished. :mrgreen:

Here is a pretty basic version of the Multiplayer Mod thing. All weapons are buyable and all that, but there are a few ships missing. You will have to wait a little longer while I add them from the units file.

Sorry for posting 4 times in a row! :(

Here is the completed SVN version. It does not have the weapon_list or the units file, but it does have the network.system and the master_part_list.

I was suprised when I saw just how many different ships there were in the SVN! WOW! There is alot more than 0.5! :shock:

The artist types just keep making beautiful ships s they get included so they don't get lost :wink: Some where updates of older models that where place holders.

OK, I experimented a bit with that code you gave me, the bases kept saying that they didnt load so I added more planets and that seemed to do the trick. The only problem that I am seeming to have is that I can no longer spec drive!!! This is a HUGE problem, as this makes the planets absolutely unecessary, as you cannot reach them in the first place! Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Nevermind, I fixed it. I screwed something up and had to start the code all over again. Wow, Ive been posting alot lately! :lol: Sorry if I'm annoying anyone, I really don't mean to.

naw, everyone's contributions are humbly accepted :) besides, we don't have many people posting (especially in comparison to other forums, check ubuntuforums.org for reference :lol: )

Oh, but, UGH! I HATE what they did to the Derivative! I see they changed both that and the Determinant, but the old Determinant was pretty screwy, once I saw what it looked like in flight. I guess the new Deriv isn't too bad, but the old one was just so COOL! PLEASE tell me we can keep the mesh and texture, even if we make it a different ship. PLEEEZE?

But the new one does fit the designing factions aesthetic better and i do believe that the old mesh and textures are in the masters module of the svn repo i liked the old one too 8) but the new one still has the speed and missile mounts of the old one and i do like it's trilateral symmetry.

I would like the new one just fine, except I have just one problem with it... It is a MUCH bigger target! :lol: BTW, I believe you quoted the wrong person. I didn't say that, loki did.

Anyways, I have been working with the network.system file, if you want I can post it. It has 10 planets in total, but no stations. :( I did what Greekgifted said, but they didn't work at all... Anyways, it makes the patrol and Clean Sweep missions actually work. IDK, I just felt like saying I did this, because it took me 5 hours to get it right. :lol:

Good job doing that. If you get the stations to work, you deserve a medal 8) .

I figured out how to get the stations to work! The line of coding Greekgifted gave me didn't have enough coding in it to load the stations, so I hunted down another sector file and copied it into the network file and it works just fine! I will have some stations into the file in just a bit, I will make a 0.5 and a SVN version.

With the codes I have been seeing in the other sector files, I might be able to stick a wormhole in the system, but I would have absolutely NO idea what would happen if you went through one. BTW, what do you want this system to be called? I can name it anything you want.

Hmmm maybe you could tell us which string we have to modify to name the system? That way, it would more or less be like the "server name".

You can change faction of bases? This keeps getting better and better! :D You could also tell us the string for the faction of the bases :mrgreen: who knows, maybe it could be a good idea to make a wiki page on help configuring all this stuff?
