Okay this is a question that i asked a long time ago and didnt get an answer for... how fast is 97C? I mean what does the "C" stand for? I know it goes by meters and i know its about 1 light minute per second.. but what does C stand for?

for the most part all of vegastrike is based off of what the dev's think would happen in actual space and spec is just a way to multiply the speed you are going

C is just the speed of light 3.0 x 10^8 m/s

C is the speed of light 3.0 x 10^8 meters/sec is a good approximation for quick calculations as the more accurate 2.9 whatever changes quite often depending on the latest measurement technique  and in most situations more than three significant digits is meaningless.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Oh cool thanks for answering :) i didnt know that helps me out alot. so technically your ship is going 97.34 times the speed of light while in SPEC?

i think you go faster than that loki would probably know better than i do but i think your actual speed is 97.34C x the number that is below that value as spec from what i have read elsewhere on the forum is just a way to multiply your velocity but not actually sure

299792458 m/s, actually. This number shouldn't ever change unless some crazy religious fundamentalists get a say in it, because the metre is defined as the distance a beam of light in a vacuum travels in 1/299792458 s.

What I wonder, though, is from what reference frame the SPEC speed is measured. The ship can't locally move faster than light, but can appear from an external observer to do so. The question remains: which observer?

Lots of speculation on that  safemode started a thread on what SPEC should be like but no real consensus was reached.

Enjoy the Choice :)

That makes me think...
