It depends on which one you have installed the various distros ship with a different version so you use the version that ship's with yours but we have to have a version for each so we can be built

Enjoy the Choice :)

so in general, it is not needed, but if I instruct the svn no to download boost, will the game know to look in the right paths?

That's what the make scripts do IIRC.

No. In fact, the Subversion repository uses something called "externals" to check it out directly from boost's website. If you do a "svn status" you will see what I mean.

if you would like to use the version of boost compiled for your system, you can run ./configure with "--with-boost=system", and you can avoid wasting the hard drive space by doing "--ignore-externals" when you checkout the vegastrike source

Why doesn't SF use "externals" to support the email and REcaptcha features? Security, I'm guessing?

Not going to happen all we can hope for is a respite as it is very similar to an arms race new anti-bot techniques lead to smarter bots more anti-bot rinse and repeat.

Yes, of course. At least I mean for a decently long period of time before we need another anti-bot tech  Damn to hell the foolz that create spambot technology!

That error is really strange. What other errors do you get if you do "make -k"? It might help if I knew what other files also have this error.

I haven't tested using the system version of boost, so it's possible there is a subtle difference between each version. What Linux distribution are you using?

configure shows this:

Code: Select all

configure: Using System Boost
configure: No Threading Model Used
configure: Using std::list for basis of collision testing
still crashes, here is the pastebin of warrnings and errors: http://pastebin.com/m5083dd2
